ID#: 3192Image via WikipediaThe fungi that exist in your skin cause yeast infection. The more the area gets moisturized, the more would be the fungi growth. Yeast infection happens when you change the area of fungal growth. Though the skin is capable to tackle any fungal infection, any breaks in the skin can cause organisms to enter.

A child would never get yeast infection. Only adult women get affected by it. Thrush of the mouth may occur in children but it does not affect any other part. Parents have surely heard of such misconceptions sometime during the growing years of their child. Children, like any of us, may be prone to be infected by Candida, which need not be only in the mouth area. These infections usually occur when the location is warm, humid and moist.

What causes a yeast infection:Reasons for Yeast Infection:

Candida thrives in an area where the area is wet and moist. Where else does it find such a place other than the diaper of your toddler who is just beginning to learn good toilet habits? The cute folds and the areas which are usually covered by diapers are the ideal places where Candida can breed. When it comes to looks, it is not very dissimilar to thrush as it has the same white lumps and smells like rising bread. Yeast infection can be prevented if the child is kept dry and clean, especially during summer months.

Candida prospers in the several folds of the genital area of women. This is why yeast infection is mostly seen in women. Since boy babies also wear diapers which trap heat, they are also prone to be affected. Think about it: the same environment which causes diaper rash would also result in Candida overgrowth. So you ought to take the same preventive measures you take for you baby girl for your baby boy too.

Symptoms warning of a probable yeast infection

The locality of the yeast infection would be the deciding factor in the symptoms. If the infection occurs in the vagina then the woman would feel a burning sensation accompanied by a vaginal discharge which is thick and white or thin and watery. Oral thrush can be manifested in the form of some thick white patches on top of swollen red skin in the mouth. This area though sensitive, may not itch like the usual outer skin infections. It may bleed however, if the white section is removed. Eating and drinking thus becomes painful and children with this infection must drink lots of water.

You need to remain ever alert for the early signs of yeast infections. Although this may not be anything too dangerous, it could become complicated if you leave it just like that. The most commonly appearing symptoms are discussed here but further advice can be given by your local doctor.
